Our Farm Practices

Our Agroforestry Farm

Our agroforestry program promotes whole-system health with soil, water, plants, animals, and mycelium working together to naturally cultivate resilient, fertile land and increase the production food.

Our permaculture consultants guided us in moving move earth to create new water bodies on the farmland. These improve ground water absorption and accelerate new growth and soil regeneration at the farm, which in tandem with a diversity of plantings, enables us to grow many types of produce not typically found in the Nosara region.

Designed to mimic the natural patterns and features of the local ecosystem, the Shift regenerative farm draws upon a variety of permaculture agroforestry farming practices:

  • Promoting life on every level, whether microbial or overstory, by farming with a process-based rather than inputs-based approach

  • Utilizing trees to form the backbone of production on site

  • Avoiding all use of chemical herbicides or pesticides

  • Working with the natural contour patterns of the land to promote water capture and soil retention, we minimize bare soil and increase biomass across the site. Rather than take water from the land we're giving water back to the water table.
