Shift Esperanza is a pioneering regenerative real estate community development in Nosara, Costa Rica, dedicated to sustainability, health, and conscious living. The project is a master-planned, multi-phase, mixed-use development spanning 108 acres in one of Central America’s most desirable destinations. Built on principles of permaculture, community, and carbon-neutral technology, Shift Esperanza is designed to create a positive impact for both people and the planet.

Shift Esperanza is a flagship project of Blesso Properties, a visionary real estate and hospitality firm founded in 1998 in New York by Matthew Blesso. Blesso Properties has a strong track record of delivering creative, award-winning projects in New York, Panama, and Costa Rica that have redefined design and development standards through innovation, sustainability, and impact. Its projects have set pricing records, received numerous design awards, and been widely featured in leading global publications.

Through its portfolio, including Shift Esperanza, Blesso Properties continues to push the boundaries of sustainable and conscious real estate development. In partnership with Raymond Brealey, who brings over 25 years of development experience in Costa Rica, Shift combines global expertise with deep local knowledge. After five years of careful planning, Shift Esperanza is preparing to break ground, positioning itself as a model for regenerative real estate that benefits residents, the environment, and surrounding communities

About the Role:
The Community & Events Manager is the primary touchpoint for all members of Shift Esperanza and the lead in designing and delivering our events ecosystem, and plays a central role in shaping the culture, rituals, and shared identity of the project.

This role:

  • Welcomes and supports new buyers from purchase to early living phases.

  • Builds and manages the annual events calendar, including weekly activities and signature gatherings.

  • Produces onsite and online experiences that deepen connection and belonging.

  • Develops local business partnerships and collaborations in Nosara.

  • Leads cultural development, community guidelines, and alignment practices.

  • Supports social impact initiatives and programs that connect Shift with the wider community.

As the community grows, this role will oversee a part time Events Coordinator and other support roles. The goal is to ensure a warm, organized, and inspiring experience from purchase, to integration, to everyday community life.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Community Experience & Communication

  • Lead all community communication channels including WhatsApp groups, email updates, and community announcements.

  • Welcome and onboard new buyers, guiding them through Shift’s journey from purchase to move in.

  • Host online and in person community alignment meetings.

  • Support residents with integration into the community, connecting them with resources, services, and relevant events.

  • Maintain a clear, consistent, and kind communication style that reflects Shift’s values.

2. Community Culture, Alignment & Guidelines

The Community & Events Manager is responsible for shaping the heart and culture of Shift Esperanza.

This includes:

  • Designing, updating, and implementing Community Guidelines that support respectful behavior, shared values, and healthy group dynamics.

  • Creating frameworks for conflict awareness, healthy communication, and community alignment (in collaboration with leadership).

  • Developing rituals, traditions, recurring gatherings, and cultural touchpoints that help residents feel part of something meaningful and cohesive.

  • Ensuring all events, communications, and programs reflect Shift’s core values sustainability, integrity, inclusion, emotional maturity, and conscious living.

  • Supporting the development of the Shift culture playbook, ensuring future growth remains rooted in the original vision.
    Acting as a cultural steward, ensuring the community feels safe, inspired, aligned, and supported as it grows.

This area of responsibility is essential for building a thriving intentional community that is truly regenerative inside and out.

3. Events Strategy, Calendar & Programming

  • Design Shift’s annual events and programming calendar for onsite and online experiences.

  • Plan and execute regular activities across wellness, community engagement, permaculture, family life, and cultural experiences.

  • Co create and host online gatherings for global members such as webinars, circles, and information sessions.

  • Ensure events support key goals including community building, community cohesion, education, the Shift vision, and sales support when relevant.
    Track attendance, feedback, and outcomes to refine programming over time.

4. Event Production & Logistics

  • Manage logistics for each event including scheduling, bookings, vendors, equipment, set up, and on the day coordination.

  • Ensure a smooth and high quality experience for residents, guests, and partners.

  • Collaborate closely with the Sales and Marketing team to align events with launch timelines, campaigns, and promotional opportunities.

  • Build and document repeatable processes and checklists for events as the program grows.

  • Over time, manage and mentor a part time Events Coordinator or support staff.

5. Partnerships & Local Integration

  • Build and maintain relationships with local businesses and partners including:

    • Hotels and hostels

    • Wellness centers and teachers

    • Gyms and studios

    • Restaurants and cafés

    • Retreat operators

    • NGOs such as Costa Verdes

    • Schools and local community groups

  • Co create collaboration opportunities such as co hosted events, resident discounts, cross promotion, cultural exchanges. and shared impact projects.

  • Help position Shift as a respectful and positive contributor to the Nosara community.

6. Social Impact & Community Programs

  • Co design and support social impact programs together with Operations, Marketing, and the farm team.

  • Help coordinate activities such as composting initiatives, reforestation days, school visits, farm workshops, and educational tours.

  • Ensure that community actions reflect Shift’s environmental and social commitments in daily practice.

7. Administration, Data & Collaboration

  • Maintain detailed member records, event attendance lists, and communication touchpoints using CRM and internal systems.

  • Provide regular feedback to leadership on community needs, sentiment, and emerging opportunities.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing team on content ideas, storytelling, and promotion of events and community life.

  • Develop and Contribute to community guidelines, house rules, and alignment practices as the project evolves.

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Communications, Hospitality, Events Management, Community Development, Social Work, Tourism, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in at least one of the following areas: community management, events production, hospitality, wellness, or member services.

  • Strong organizational and logistical skills, with experience managing calendars, vendors, budgets, and timelines.

  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and group facilitation.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with both local Costa Rican stakeholders and international members.

  • Confident using WhatsApp, CRMs, Zoom, Google Suite, and digital collaboration tools.

  • Fluent in English; Spanish is a strong advantage.

  • High emotional intelligence, with a warm, grounded, and empathetic presence; emotionally mature and self-aware.

  • Ability to maintain strong personal boundaries, paired with a steady, clear, and respectful communication style.

  • A natural relationship builder who genuinely enjoys supporting people and fostering meaningful, trust-based connections.

  • Energetic, proactive, and solution-oriented, with an entrepreneurial mindset and strong ownership over outcomes.

  • Highly organized, while remaining creative, intuitive, and adaptable in dynamic environments.

  • Strong alignment with values-driven work, including nature, sustainability, wellbeing, and conscious living.

  • Comfortable working cross-culturally, engaging with both the local Costa Rican community and a global audience.

Availability

  • Primarily in-office position based in Guiones, Nosara, with consistent on-site presence required.

  • Hybrid flexibility available for the right candidate, with approximately 50% in-person presence during key periods (housing provided while in Nosara).

  • Ability to work full-time, 5 days per week, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Role Conditions

  • Position: Community & Events Manager.

  • Confidentiality, intellectual property, and non-compete terms apply as per the employment contract.

  • Vacation according to Costa Rican law + internal benefits.

  • Petty cash / reimbursements subject to invoices and administrative reporting.

  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility required for occasional evenings or weekends during events or community activities (time compensated according to company policy).

  • Probation period as established by Costa Rican labor law.

  • Performance expectations and review process, including periodic check-ins aligned with role objectives and community outcomes.

  • Code of conduct and values alignment, requiring professional behavior, discretion, and alignment with Shift Esperanza’s culture and community standards.
