Shift operates its own private well with capacity far beyond the needs of the community. To protect the local watershed, graywater and rainwater are captured and directed into permanent water bodies and infiltration trenches designed to percolate back into the aquifer, rather than running off into the ocean.
Whole-Home Filtration & Decalcification
Every home is designed around a whole-home water filtration system and salt-free softening technology. This chemical-free conditioning prevents mineral adhesion and reduces limescale, ensuring high-quality, pure water at every tap while protecting your home's plumbing. Reverse osmosis systems provide pristine drinking water directly at the kitchen sink.
Graywater Recycling
Graywater from showers, washing machines, and faucets is collected, filtered, and processed through a Treated Greywater System. This treated water is then repurposed to supply toilets, reducing each household's freshwater consumption by approximately 50%.
Wastewater Treatment
Blackwater from toilets and kitchen drains flows into an advanced on-site wastewater treatment plant. Rather than being discarded, the purified water is repurposed for highly efficient drip irrigation in the surrounding green areas. There is no risk of contaminating local waterways; the rivers, the aquifer, and the ocean are protected by design.

Homes are oriented to align with local wind patterns and the sun's path. Extended roof overhangs, internal patios, and cross-ventilation strategies optimize natural airflow and shading. This passive cooling reduces the reliance on energy-intensive air conditioning, allowing the home to breathe and stay comfortable naturally.
Wildlife Corridors & Night Sky Preservation
Every home is designed to work around existing trees, not through them, preserving critical wildlife corridors. Exterior lighting is strictly regulated to full-cutoff fixtures that direct light downward, preserving the natural night sky and avoiding disturbance to native species.
THE REGENERATIVE FARM
Finca La Esperanza
Most developments build the amenities first. Shift built the food system first.
Finca La Esperanza is a 5.4-hectare permaculture farm at the heart of the Shift Esperanza property, designed by Porvenir Design using agroforestry principles that replicate the patterns of the endemic equatorial dry forest. It is not a garden feature or a marketing gesture. It is core infrastructure, shaping how the land is managed, how water moves through the property, how organic waste is processed, and how the community eats.
By 2033, the farm will produce over 76,000 kg of food per year, supplying up to 30% of the annual caloric needs of the community. A biofactory on-site processes organic residues from up to 400 people per year, returning nutrients to the soil. The farm is on a clear path to full financial self-sufficiency by 2030, operating as a closed-loop system that sustains itself through its own production.
This is not symbolic sustainability. This is operational regeneration, designed from the soil up.
