The vision for Shift begins with a simple belief: where we live shapes how we live. A home is part of something larger. It is connected to the land beneath it, the food on the table, the people next door, the water that moves through the property, and the choices that carry forward to the next generation.
Shift was designed around those connections from the beginning. The homes are private and personal. The larger community is open, alive, and full of possibility. A morning walk through the jungle. Shift is planned as a living system. The masterplan protects the natural landscape while creating an exceptional everyday environment for the people who live here. More than three quarters of the 108 acre property is permanently preserved. Seventeen kilometers of private trails connect neighborhoods to jungle, ridgelines, water bodies, and shared spaces. Homes are positioned for privacy, views, natural airflow, and a closer relationship with the land.
At the center is Finca La Esperanza, an eight acre working permaculture farm restoring soil, growing fresh organic food, and building biodiversity through agroforestry, composting, and water stewardship. La Colmena, the shared amenity hub, brings together movement, dining, work, creativity, family life, and gathering. Every layer has a purpose. Every layer supports the next.

You can begin the morning in the yoga shala, work from the coworking space, take a trail through the jungle, meet friends at the social pool, or retreat to the quiet of your own home. You can share a long dinner at La Colmena or take dinner home. You can join a film night, gather around the bonfire, or keep the evening entirely to yourself.
That freedom is intentional. The spaces are there when you want to be together. Privacy is there when you want to be alone. Over time, familiar faces become trusted friends. LEAVING THE LAND MORE ALIVE

The story of Shift begins with the land. What was once cattle pasture is becoming a thriving equatorial landscape shaped by reforestation, water stewardship, native planting, and regenerative farming.
Finca La Esperanza has already planted thousands of trees, established more than 1,800 fruit trees, built systems to retain water in the landscape, and transformed organic material into nutrient rich compost. The farm grows food for the community while creating a living place for residents and guests to learn, participate, and stay connected to the source of what they eat.
The same thinking guides the rest of the property. Trees are surveyed and protected. Homes are designed to work with the climate. Water is treated as a resource to be returned to the land. Energy systems, materials, trails, roads, and shared spaces are all part of a larger commitment to care for this place with attention and respect.

Ten percent of profits are committed to local charities and community programs supporting education, conservation, and local well being. Shift also partners with local organizations, supports the Costa Rica based team through fair compensation and training, and creates opportunities for Costa Rican ownership. From the farm team to community planting initiatives, the work is designed to keep creating value close to home.
